When we talk to researchers about online research one of the most commonly cited concerns is ‘but how do I know what my participants are doing if I can’t see them?’ Hands up if you’ve ever thought this! I know I have.
In the lab we have a sense of control because we can see the participant, but does that guarantee they are actually fully focused on your task? Is it actually just an illusion of control? And perhaps there’s such a thing as too much control!?!
